Artex Risk Solutions, an insurance manager, was presented with a certificate marking its Fairtrade commitment by Sumatran coffee producer Mahyana Sari, who is also secretary of the KSU Arinagata Cooperative.

‘Fairtrade Guernsey is delighted that Artex Guernsey is the latest business to register with us as supporters of Fairtrade.

‘This means that their decision to use Fairtrade products will bring about real benefits for the producers,’ said Steve Mauger from Fairtrade Guernsey.

He said such commitment was key to the continued growth of Fairtrade in the island, adding: ‘Mahyana commented on the warmth of welcome they received in the Artex office and their appreciation of the level of support afforded to Fairtrade.’

Peter Child, managing director of Artex Guernsey, said: ‘Artex has joined up as a Fairtrade partner having been drawn to the Fairtrade movement because its modus operandi, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, chimes with Artex’s way of doing business.

‘Empathy and engagement are key to Artex’s core values and becoming a local Fairtrade partner is a great way of underlining those values while providing support for a movement that promotes greater equity and empowerment for producers and workers in developing countries.’

To further raise awareness of Fairtrade within Artex, staff have also sampled Fairtrade chocolate and enjoyed a bake sale using Fairtrade ingredients.

The firm has also supported fundraising by providing a raffle prize drawn during a Fairtrade Fortnight quiz.
