Musician Goldie was today fined nearly £2,500 for attacking a security guard at Glastonbury Festival when he was denied access to a backstage VIP area.

The 52-year-old, whose real name is Clifford Joseph Price, pushed security guard Dennis Poole and scratched his face after he was stopped from going in the area at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

Goldie was sentenced one month after he became the first person in Britain to plead guilty to an offence via Facetime after failing to attend court because he was based in Thailand at the time.

That hearing also saw Goldie told off after referring to District Judge Lynne Matthews as ‘my dear’. He then used Facetime to admit assaulting Mr Poole on June 23 last year by beating him.

But the judge ordered him to attend today’s hearing in person and he arrived early in a smart three-piece suit and silver tie at Bristol Magistrates Court.

District Judge David Taylor today ordered Price to pay a fine of £1,080, compensation of £500, a victim surcharge of £108 and costs of £775.

The judge told Price: ‘Your entirely unjustified actions demonstrate an arrogant sense of entitlement based on your own self-importance.

‘The physical injuries sustained by Mr Poole at your hands were relatively minor but the assault has had an emotional and psychological impact on him.’

The DJ’s daughter Chance, 20, of Leavesden, Hertfordshire, was also accused of kicking the security guard as he lay on the ground during the brawl.

But after her father changed his plea to guilty, prosecutors said it would not be in the public interest to proceed with the case against the daughter.

Speaking outside Bristol Magistrates’ Court, Goldie said today: ‘I took a bullet for my daughter, I’m happy.

‘Hopefully he can move on and understand if you’re doing your job do it right. I’m apologising as a man would do.’

When asked if he regretted his actions, he replied: ‘Me? Always sorry. Always be sorry for what you do.’
