Just Cause 4 is coming later this year, and it’s set to be bigger, more ambitious and more explosive than ever. Will you join Rico in the fight against the Black Hand in what could be the most dangerous revolution in the series so far?

Here’s all you need to know about Just Cause 4, from the release date to platform and pre-order information to the latest gameplay news. You can also check out the announcement trailer, first showcased at E3 2018, above!

When will Just Cause 4 be released?

While many knew that a Just Cause 4 announcement was coming, nobody was expecting a 2018 release date to be announced alongside it at Microsoft’s E3 2018 showcase. At the event, Square Enix confirmed that Just Cause 4 is set to be released on 4 December 2018. Just in time for some explosive festive fun!

Which platforms will Just Cause 4 support?

Like 2015’s Just Cause 3, Just Cause 4 is set to be released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with Nintendo Switch players missing out once again. And like most other 2018 games, we expect that Just Cause 4 will offer support for the 4K-enabled Xbox One X and PS4 Pro.

If you’re interested in pre-ordering Just Cause 4 ahead of release, you can pick it up from Amazon (£59.99) and GAME (£54.99) in the UK, as well as Best Buy ($59.99) in the US.

If you’re a dedicated Just Cause fan, you can also pay a little extra for the Digital Deluxe Edition (£54.99/$69.99) and Gold Edition (£84.99/$89.99). The Digital Deluxe Edition provides access to the game 24 hours before release, along with Black Hand weaponry, while the Gold Edition includes everything in the Deluxe Edition along with the Expansion Pass and the Golden Gear Pack.

What should I expect from Just Cause 4 gameplay?

Rico Rodriguez is back in the fictional South American world of Solis, and once again, it’s time to blow some sh*t up. This time around, Rico is leading a revolution against a high-tech private military organisation named Black Hand, and they mean business.

The explosive world of Solis is more vibrant and alive than ever, partly due to the introduction of different biomes and a reactive weather system. The game is set to offer four biomes – Rainforest, Grasslands, Alpine and Desert – each with a distinct look and unique simulated weather events that include incredible towering tornadoes and booming tropical lightning storms. The map is huge too; 1024 square kilometres, to be precise.

These weather events can be your friend or foe; will you perish in the strong winds of a tornado, or will you use a combination of your trusty wingsuit, parachute and grappling hook to gain some serious speed and height? It’s down to you to utilise the ever-changing environment present in Just Cause 4 and, as ever, creativity is encouraged.

“The introduction of Extreme Weather is a complete game changer – players will not have seen anything like this in a videogame. We have created fully physicalized tornadoes, blizzards, sandstorms and torrential downpours which affect gameplay in a very real way,” Francesco Antolini, Game Director at Avalanche Studios said in a press release.

As mentioned, you’ll have access to the wingsuit, parachute and grappling hook introduced in Just Cause 3 to traverse the gorgeous, detailed world. But, unlike in the previous game, you’ll now be able to customise your grappling hook with brand new capabilities. You’ll be able to create unique stunts and new methods of destruction that play to the strengths of your play style, making sure you get as much out of Just Cause 4 and the upgraded Apex engine as possible.

All this suggests that Just Cause 4 is going to be the most immersive, enjoyable and explosive game in the series so far, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it later this year.
